Research overview

LL-37 is a 37-amino-acid cationic peptide that starts with two leucines, hence its name. It is the active fragment cut from hCAP18, the only human cathelicidin, and forms an amphipathic helix that can disrupt bacterial membranes.

Beyond killing microbes, LL-37 is studied as a signalling molecule of innate immunity: it attracts immune cells, modulates inflammatory responses and influences epithelial repair, partly through the receptor FPR2. Expression of its gene is regulated by vitamin D in many cell types. Because it is strongly cationic, it can stick to surfaces and bind DNA and other polyanions, so plan low-binding tubes and matched controls.

Product details

LL-37 is a 37-residue cationic peptide, the active form of the human cathelicidin antimicrobial protein. It is used in research on innate immunity and antimicrobial mechanisms.

Questions

What is LL-37?

The active antimicrobial peptide released from hCAP18, the human cathelicidin protein. It has 37 amino acids and a net positive charge.

Why does LL-37 need low-binding tubes?

Its positive charge makes it stick to many plastic and glass surfaces, which can lower the real concentration of dilute solutions.

What's in the vial?

LL-37 at the strength you choose. No diluent or accessories are included.

Can I check the lab report for my vial?

Yes. The batch number on your vial matches a report on this page or in our lab report library, with a link to verify it on the lab's website where available.

Is this product for human use?

No. It's sold for laboratory research use only and isn't for human or veterinary use.
