All reportsResearch overview
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide of the secretin and glucagon family, found in nerves of the gut, lungs, blood vessels and brain. It acts through two G protein-coupled receptors, VPAC1 and VPAC2, which it shares with the related peptide PACAP.
VIP relaxes smooth muscle and widens blood vessels, stimulates fluid secretion in the gut, modulates immune cells and helps synchronise the circadian clock in the suprachiasmatic nucleus. Its half-life in blood is very short, so it is mainly a tool for receptor and cell research. Use low-binding tubes and prepare solutions shortly before use.

Questions
Which receptors does VIP act on?
VPAC1 and VPAC2, G protein-coupled receptors it shares with PACAP.
Why is VIP studied in circadian research?
VIP signalling in the suprachiasmatic nucleus helps keep the brain's master clock neurons in step.
What's in the vial?
VIP at the strength you choose. No diluent or accessories are included.
Can I check the lab report for my vial?
Yes. The batch number on your vial matches a report on this page or in our lab report library, with a link to verify it on the lab's website where available.
Is this product for human use?
No. It's sold for laboratory research use only and isn't for human or veterinary use.
