Research overview

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone made of two subunits: an alpha subunit shared with LH, FSH and TSH, and a beta subunit unique to hCG. Produced by the placenta in pregnancy, it acts on the same receptor as luteinising hormone, the LH/CG receptor.

Because it is a heavily glycosylated protein, its activity is expressed in international units (IU) rather than milligrams. hCG is supplied as a lyophilized reference material for LH/CG receptor research and for studies of steroid production in gonadal cells. Handle solutions gently, keep them cold and divide them into single-use portions to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.

Product details

Human chorionic gonadotropin is a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone that binds the LH/CG receptor. Supplied as a lyophilized reference material, labeled in international units.

Questions

Which receptor does hCG act on?

The LH/CG receptor, which it shares with luteinising hormone.

Why is hCG labelled in IU?

As a glycoprotein, its biological activity is standardised in international units rather than by mass.

What's in the vial?

hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) at the strength you choose. No diluent or accessories are included.

Can I check the lab report for my vial?

Yes. The batch number on your vial matches a report on this page or in our lab report library, with a link to verify it on the lab's website where available.

Is this product for human use?

No. It's sold for laboratory research use only and isn't for human or veterinary use.
