All reportsResearch overview
Oxytocin is a nonapeptide hormone (Cys-Tyr-Ile-Gln-Asn-Cys-Pro-Leu-Gly-NH2) with a disulfide bond between its two cysteines that forms a six-residue ring. It is made in the hypothalamus and released from the posterior pituitary.
Oxytocin acts on the oxytocin receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor, to drive uterine contraction and milk ejection, and it is widely studied in neuroscience for its role in social behaviour, bonding and stress responses. It is closely related to vasopressin, which differs at two positions. Supplied lyophilized as a reference material for receptor-pharmacology research.
