Research overview
AOD-9604 is a modified fragment of human growth hormone: amino acids 177 to 191 of the hormone's C-terminal region with an added tyrosine at the N-terminus. It was developed to study the fat-metabolism activity attributed to this region of the growth hormone molecule, without the growth-promoting effects of the full hormone.
Early studies described effects on lipolysis in fat cells and animal models without changes in IGF-1, but development for obesity stopped after a larger clinical trial did not meet its main goals. It remains a research tool for separating the metabolic and growth activities of growth hormone. It is also available as a pre-filled pen.
