Research overview
IGF-1 LR3 is a recombinant analogue of insulin-like growth factor 1 with 83 amino acids: arginine replaces glutamate at position 3, and a 13-amino-acid extension is added at the N-terminus. These changes greatly reduce binding to IGF-binding proteins, so more of the peptide stays free and active.
As a result it is far more potent than native IGF-1 in many cell systems and lasts longer, which is why it is widely used as a cell-culture and bioprocessing reagent to support cell growth in serum-free media. It is a standard tool for IGF-1 receptor signalling studies through the PI3K-Akt and MAPK pathways. Supplied lyophilized; use low-binding tubes for dilute solutions.
