All reportsResearch overview
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, a preservative that limits bacterial growth after the vial has been opened. It is a common laboratory solvent for dissolving lyophilized peptides when the same solution will be drawn from several times.
Benzyl alcohol can affect some sensitive cell assays, so use plain sterile water where that matters and include a solvent control. Add the water slowly down the side of the peptide vial and swirl gently rather than shaking. Our guide to handling lyophilized peptides covers solvent choice, technique and how to work out concentrations.
