Research overview

5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small, membrane-permeable molecule that inhibits nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme highly expressed in fat tissue and liver. NNMT transfers a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to nicotinamide, so it sits at the junction of methylation and NAD+ metabolism.

Inhibiting NNMT is studied as a way to raise intracellular NAD+ and change fat-cell metabolism, and mouse studies with 5-Amino-1MQ reported reduced fat mass and adipocyte size on a high-fat diet. It is supplied as a research reagent for NNMT and metabolism studies, and 5-Amino-1MQ capsules are available for oral designs.

Questions

What enzyme does 5-Amino-1MQ inhibit?

Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), which methylates nicotinamide.

How is NNMT linked to NAD+?

NNMT consumes nicotinamide, a building block of the NAD+ salvage pathway, so inhibiting it is studied as a way to support NAD+ levels.

What's in the vial?

5-Amino-1MQ at the strength you choose. No diluent or accessories are included.

Can I check the lab report for my vial?

Yes. The batch number on your vial matches a report on this page or in our lab report library, with a link to verify it on the lab's website where available.

Is this product for human use?

No. It's sold for laboratory research use only and isn't for human or veterinary use.
